In January 2022 we were commissioned to make a bespoke, artful cube seating collection, inspired by an artist named Piet Mondrian. We aligned the cubes into a formation that represents his finest work, and then one of our designers drew the black lines in between so you can visualise what a piece of Mondrian art would look like!
Mondrian was inspired by Cubism, a movement led by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque that explored the use of multiple perspectives. Mondrian began experimenting with abstracted forms around the time he moved to Paris in 1912.
His composition with the colours red, blue, and yellow with hints of black looks fascinating, so producing these cubes and arranging them was a rather interesting but fascinating experience. The composition is similarly reduced to the simplest of rectilinear forms, squares and rectangles defined by vertical and horizontal lines. After researching the artist, we found out that his art work was to reflect the underlying spirituality of nature, your guess on this is probably as good as ours but I think this shows the deeper meaning to many famous artist’s works.
The Grey Tree is one of Mondrian's most famous pieces and an important painting with regard to the development of his career as it exemplifies his early transition toward abstraction and his application of Cubist principles to represent landscape.
The production and manufacturing process of these luxury cubes was an absolute pleasure to be part of. We hand make all our seats and cubes, and our team loved working on this commission.
If you require some bespoke seating, we are only a call away. Whether you are looking for colours colour matched cube collections or branded seating, nothing is too much trouble for our team.
